When writing a modern crime novel, authors have to choose a location. Many, like Michael Connelly’s Bosch series, take place in real locations plucked from the map. Others are set in fictional towns.
I chose to set my debut thriller, COME AND GET ME: A Caitlin Bergman Novel, in the very real locations of Bloomington, Indiana, Los Angeles, California, and parts of the Bahamas.
Other authors create entire towns, both to protect the innocent and give themselves creative freedom.
I sat down with 6 contemporary authors for CrimeReads.com to discuss the process of setting fictional murders in real-world settings.
