Blast Off: Preparing Your Book Launch
Leaders: Ara Grigorian & August Norman
Objective: Launching a book is more than just tweeting or posting “BUY NOW!” on Facebook; more than a book signing or a well-timed mailing list. It’s everything and more, all coming together in an orchestration of timing, communications, and activities to assure you’ve prepared your target market and know how to use tools and services that excite readers up to and through the launch. In this workshop, Ara (originally traditionally published and now through his own imprint) and August (whose debut novel is traditionally published) will share best practices, tips and tricks, tools and services, dos and don’ts, successes and disasters, and everything in between to help you prepare for the event that literally puts your book on the map!

ABOUT THE SCWC:

A Weekend For Words, September 20-22, 2019

THE GREAT WHITE ART is what John Gardner called it, what it is that we writers do, crafting pages from blank. While artists we may be, today’s publishing realities mandate that, in order to win over the needed, passionate advocates of our work, we must also become entrepreneurialauthors. Entrepreneurial in spirit. Entrepreneurial in execution. Excellence in craft alone no longer cuts it. But excellence in craft and a meaningful book still matters most.

conf11Having facilitated well over $4 million worth of first-time authors’ book and screen deals since 1986, the SCWC remains devoted to writers of all levels working to become both exceptional authors and entrepreneurial self-advocates. Through our uniquely tailored, inclusive programs the SCWC empowers writers with the vital recognition, encouragement and understanding to better succeed in today’s ever-changing transmedia marketplace.

conf10Regardless which path to publication you are pursuing, whether you’re a writer just starting out, a writer unable to determine why your work’s not working, a writer simply in search of some answers, a writer wanting feedback on what you’ve written, or just a writer who wants to hang with other writers and publishing professionals in a safe, supportive community, join us for the 17th Annual Southern California Writers’ Conference *LA (in Irvine), Sept. 20-22, 2019.

Because a writer is a writer before, as well as after, publication. And today more than at any other time, publishing is personal.Saturday morning

ABOUT COME AND GET ME:

An intrepid journalist confronts a small town’s dark secrets in Come and Get Me, a breakneck thriller for fans of Tess Gerritsen and Julia Keller.

At Indiana University, someone’s been studying the female student body:

their dating customs, nocturnal activities―and how long they can survive in captivity.

When award-winning journalist Caitlin Bergman is invited back to campus to receive an honorary degree, she finds an opportunity for a well-earned victory lap―and a chance to face the trauma that almost destroyed her as an undergrad. But her lap becomes an all-out race when a student begs her to probe an unsolved campus disappearance: Angela Chapman went out one Friday night and never came back.

To find the missing woman, Caitlin must join forces with a local police detective and the department that botched her own case so long ago.
But while Caitlin follows the clues behind Angela’s disappearance, someone else is following her…

Unearthing secrets hidden beneath an idyllic Midwestern college town, Caitlin must expose what really happened to Angela―before she herself becomes the newest addition to a twisted collection.
